While the Victorian Environment Minister warms himself in front of a 'cosy fire' - the Victorian government has omitted wood heaters from the new rental residential standards ignoring a comprehensive submission by Asthma Australia calling for wood heaters (along with other heating appliances that are no longer working) to be replaced by efficient reverse cycle electric heating by 1 March 2027. The government has also omitted wood heaters from the Victorian Energy Upgrades. Looking at this image it's easy to see why in the last twenty years the Victorian government has produced no effective policy or practice changes to reduce wood smoke pollution (despite the EPA finding that smoke from wood heaters is the single largest source of PM2.5 in metro Melbourne at 51% compared to 30% for all vehicles). We are just saying.
